Homecoming

Attention all alumni… Homecoming is this weekend! If you haven’t already, make sure to register for it on the Alumni website (http://www.cpbandalumni.org/). The chapter is providing Coffee & Donuts on Saturday morning at 9:30 am. Show up to rehearsal a little early for some wake-up food and a chance to hang out with other alumni!

Also, in response to the recent loss of our brother, Aubrey (Isbell) White, the chapter is holding a brief memorial ceremony starting at 7 pm on Sunday.  All alumni are welcome and encouraged to come join us at this memorial.  We will also have a meeting following the ceremony, and we’d love to have you stick around to check it out (but it’s also ok if you want/need to leave right after the ceremony).

Chapter Leadership Award

For the fifth straight biennium, Iota Pi has received the Chapter Leadership Award! Every two years, this award is given to the chapters of Kappa Kappa Psi that most exemplify the purposes of the fraternity and who shine across the nation as a whole. The recipients of the Chapter Leadership Award are also considered the finalists for receiving the William A. Scroggs Founder’s Trophy, awarded each biennium to the top chapter in the country!

Congratulations to every member of the Iota Pi chapter, each of whom is a small (but important!) part of what makes this chapter great!

Music in the Community

Today, Iota Pi left campus to share our love of music with our community! We assembled a small band of brothers and played at the Village, a local retirement home. Our own Aimee Ware prepared a flute solo for the audience, and Becky Hennings and Karissa Finn entertained with a clarinet duet. The full band then wowed everyone with a variety of patriotic music, including a moving medley of the songs from each branch of the military. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it (including us!) and it’s a project Iota Pi will continue to do.

Playing At The Village

In other news, Iota Pi was recognized by the City of San Luis Obispo Department of Parks and Recreation as Volunteers of the Month! The award was given for our recent Musical Carnival, where brothers go to a local after-school program to teach kids about music. The several “stations” include an instrument petting zoo, singing and rhythm, and create-your-own instrument. This is the second such carnival Iota Pi has done in SLO, and we already have another elementary school requesting a carnival!

Big thanks must be given to Leila Jewell and the Music Committee for organizing both of these events. We continue to look forward to the new ways in which they will help Iota Pi spread a respect and love for music!

Upsilon Class

Iota Pi is proud to announce the members of its newest membership class! The members of the Upsilon class are Kelsey Austin, Jeff Brown, Anna Bush, Patrick Fina, Karissa Finn, Alex Jacobius, Kristen Mann, Nicole Olson, Trevor Pell, Tim Price, Zack Rosenthal, Emma Shaffer, and Katie Sisk.

Upsilon Class

They will be working with Vice President Justin Paulson during the quarter-long Membership Education Program, and they’ll work together organize a service project, a fundraiser, and a history project before their initiation. We’re all looking forward to the great things that are sure to come from them!
